CONTEMPORARY BELGIAN WOMEN ARTISTS 1990 - 2020

Following the globalisation in 1990, Belgium has a lot of smart contemporary women artists. They are very divers in subjects, techniques and materials. Marie-Jo Lafontaine creates formidable installations of video’s and photographs of people. Ann Veronica Janssens makes sculptures with light, water and smoke. Berlinde De Bruyckere works around pain and realises timeless sculptures in wax and epoxy. Edith Dekyndt creates objects on fleeting life and time. Her video of a flag, made of women’s hair, becomes an icon of the Iranian Women’s revolution in 2022. Ilse d’Hollander paints delicate landscapes between reality and abstraction. Sofie Muller sculpts, draws and paints a fantastic oeuvre, that moves by its deep humanism. Tina Gillen paints habitats in a worlds of climate change. Otobong Nkanga constructs installations on African landscapes, devastated by a century of mining excavation. Kati Heck surprises us with her virtuose  portraits full of humor and absurdity.
