En 1958, Robert Frank publie des photos poignantes de la face sombre des Etats-Unis et lance la <em>street photography<\/em>. Dans les ann\u00e9es \u201960, la photographie documentaire devient contestataire, suite aux mouvements contestataires tels que le <em>Civil rights movement<\/em>, les <em>Black Panthers<\/em>, la guerre du Vietnam, le <em>flower power<\/em> et la culture marginale des <em>junkies<\/em>. Dans les ann\u00e9es \u201970, Bernd &amp; Hilla Becher et Cindy Sherman lancent la photographie conceptuelle aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en Allemagne. En 1976, William Eggleston expose ses photos en couleurs au MOMA. Dans les ann\u00e9es \u201980 et \u201990, l\u2019\u00e9cole de D\u00fcsseldorf fait fureur avec des photographes formidables tels que Andreas Gursky. Jeff Wall met en sc\u00e8ne ses \u00a0<em>lightboxes<\/em> narratifs et Robert Mapplethorpe r\u00e9alise des photos noir et blanc purement esth\u00e9tiques.
